Assia Djebar: an eternal voice, a literary renaissance to be rediscovered in Arabic and French
Ten years after the death of Assia Djebar, a major figure in French-speaking Algerian literature, three of her novels - Vaste est la prison, La femme sans sépulture and Le blanc de l'Algérie- will be published at SILA in a never-before-seen double edition: translated for the first time into Arabic and published simultaneously in French in Algeria.
This event is part of an exceptional tour paying tribute to a woman who, like no other, embodied the memory of Algerian women, struggles and identities.
On this occasion, Jalila Djennane Imalhayène, the writer's daughter, will honour us with her presence to share with us an intimate look at her work and its transmission.
The author's poet and translator, Hakim Miloud, will also be on hand to give bilingual readings of excerpts from the newly translated novels, making Assia Djebar's voice resonate again and again, in both languages.
